James (Jim) Andrew Harvey, age 76, died peacefully at his home in Oro-Medonte.
He left this earth to reunite with his dear parents Andrew and Gladys Harvey. Jim is survived by his loving sister Lorna Shaw, his 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Jim had a true entrepreneurial spirit. He owned several businesses, but most enjoyed his years as a Tennis Court Contractor, working all across Ontario.
Jim had many skills, most self-taught. He truly enjoyed sharing his knowledge and experience with others. He thrived on helping people, and fixing things. Jim always saw potential where others did not. He was a true outdoorsman - he loved cutting firewood and maintaining his farm. His Massey Ferguson tractor was an extension of himself, and operating it was one of his greatest joys. Always with a joke or a memory at the ready, Jim was an exceptional story teller. He loved life, and had fun.
Jim lived fearlessly, and stood up for what he believed. As an environmental activist, and determined protester of Site 41, he devoted much time advocating for the protection of our most precious resource; clean water. Jim was one of a kind. He was well known in the Elmvale area as “Mr. Greenpeace”, and was easy to spot driving his truck that was customized with environmental and polar bear decals.
Jim’s most significant accomplishment is the legacy he’s left his family, one of selflessness, resilience, a strong work ethic, and a true zest for life.
Jim will be dearly missed by the many friends and family members who were blessed to have known and loved him. His memory will be cherished always by the light of his life, his great granddaughter Journey – a.k.a. “Stormy”.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial donations to Greenpeace or Scouts Canada would be greatly appreciated.
