MOGRIDGE, ELWIN JOSEPH

Passed away with his family at his side on Sunday, September 20, 2015 at the age of 66. Son of the late Johanna (Steele) Mogridge and Victor Mogridge. Beloved husband of 40 years to Nancy. Father to Jeffrey and Jamie. Loved gramps to Jaime, Cooper and Carson. Brother to Reg (Chris), Dan (Monique) and Jill (Frank). Uncle to Tanya, Jason, Cassidy, Lynsey, Chris, Ashley, Katie, Kyle, Shelby, Nic and Keegan.

Elwin was born in North Bay at St. Joseph’s Hospital and brought home to Trout Creek, Ontario. He grew up in Oro, where the Mogridge family ran the Big M motel and restaurant. He enjoyed a mischievous youth with his siblings and friends entertaining (and occasionally terrorizing) the people of Gasoline Alley and Barrie with his antics.

He met the love of his life, Nancy, at the age of 21 and spent the next 45 years at her side as best friends and soul mates. They raised two sons, Jeffrey and Jamie, in Fergusonvale and later welcomed their three grandchildren Jaime, Cooper and Carson into the same home. They brought him more joy than we could have ever imagined, a secondary youth. You would always find him running with the kids out on the playground or cheering at their hockey games. He was their number one fan, cheerleader and supporter. Never one to miss an important moment, although to him every moment with them was the best time of his life. Always with a smile, proudly relaying his fondest moments.

Elvy was a dedicated family man to both his immediate and extended relatives with fond memories of his silly ways spread across many generations. He was always making us laugh at the Hunt Camp, during family functions or camping with his grandkids. We will remember Elwin with Nancy as an inspiration to us all as a perfect example of true, everlasting love. There never was a day that we can recall without hearing him laugh and watching him smile. We know his love for life and his family will continue to shine as he smiles upon us.  

Friends may join family at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Home, Elmvale from 2-4pm on Thursday for a celebration of life with a service to follow at 4 pm.
