PETERSEN, HELENE (nee WOLFSGRUBER)

Helene Petersen (nee Wolfsgruber) passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at the Hospice Simcoe in Barrie with her loving husband Wolfgang and two of her five adoring children, Norbert and Britta, by her side.

Helene leaves behind her husband Wolfgang, sister, Maria, brother, Hans, children, Karen, Norbert, Richard, Bernard and Britta and their families as well as many, many nieces and nephews, their families and friends, Gusti, Karli and Klaus.

Helene never stopped talking about how much she loved her husband, children, extended families and friends. She shared loving stories and events about everyone to anyone that was there to listen.

Helene was very happy and content with her life of 84 years and wanted to let everyone know that she loved them by preparing one of her famous family tree albums with messages from her and photos of everyone she holds dear. (a link to the digital copy to be provided soon)

Everyone knew that Mom / Oma / Tante Helli would make coffee and have desserts ready to welcome visitors into her home at any time, day or night. Everyone loved her cakes and cookies.

Helene was a talented tailor who also made amazing costumes and dresses. She was a loving and caring homemaker and babysitter and worked very hard to provide a beautiful and loving home for her family. She loved to bake and was an amazing cook.

She spent time in her retirement to make family photo albums, and wrote her memoirs, for the family to read about her childhood in Vienna and her memories of times with family here in Toronto, Brampton, Pickering, Kinmount and Elmvale. She loved playing cards and spending time on Facebook and the internet via her trustee IPad.

Cherished wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, aunt, grandmother, god-mother, grand-aunt, great-grandmother, great-grand-aunt, friend and neighbour, she will be loved forever by her entire family and fondly remembered by all whom she knew.

She will be sorely missed by her husband, sister, children, nieces and nephews who enjoyed spending time with her while camping, at family get-togethers and games nights but also affectionately remembered when listening to the Vienna Waltz, having coffee and cake, playing canasta, and sipping a glass of cherry brandy or Baileys.

Please make a donation in lieu of flowers to:

Hospice Simcoe who took amazing care of mom in her last days.

RVH Dialysis Centre at 66 Wellington Street in Barrie who treated mom like family during her dialysis treatments three times a week for more than 9 years.

Red Cross Rides who provided a service that facilitated mom’s rides to Dialysis three times a week.

There will be a visitation at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Home in Elmvale on Saturday, September 17th, 2022 at noon until 2:00pm and a celebration of life at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 262, at 7 John Street in Elmvale from 2pm to 7pm. Please come and enjoy cakes, coffee and cards in Helene's memory. A burial will take place at the Kinmount Cemetery on September 19th, 2022 at 1:00pm.
