It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ron. Ron passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on November 25th at the age of 65, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Lifelong friend and husband to Gaylene. Proud Dad to sons Thayne Hallyburton (Amberly Warren) Travis Hallyburton (Chelsea Ouellett) and Grampa to grand daughter Lennon Hallyburton “Little girl.” Loved son of Delores “Dolly” and the late Albert Hallyburton. Loved brother of Sue Buchanan (John), Debbie Melnyk (late John), Mike Hallyburton (Christine). Ron will be missed by his father-in-law Don Nigro (late Pam), Brothers-in-law Rick (Marilyn) Nigro, Adam (Tab) Nigro, and sister-in-law Andrea (Randy) Stavinga and his many special nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Ron grew up in Hillsdale and started working with his Dad at the family business, Hillsdale Service Centre, at the age of 14, eventually taking it over from his Dad and running it successfully for more than 30 years. His love of cars did not stop there.
Ron’s passion was cars, engines, anything that ran and went fast or he could make go fast. If he wasn’t working on a customer’s car, you would find him working on whatever his current project was at the time. In his younger years you could find him driving around in his 63 Ford Galaxie in the summer or ripping up the road on his Ski Doo (which, yes he had made faster) in the winter. Later it was his 70 Dodge Challenger racing at the quarter mile race track in Cayuga. When the boys were old enough you could find Ron at the race track tuning snowmobiles in the winter or stock cars in the summer. He was happiest doing complete engine and transmission rebuilds often in one night so the boys could race the next day and could he ever set up a carburetor (by ear). He would often say he “got to spend every Saturday night at the track with his family doing what he loved, what’s better than that?” to anyone that would ask why he did it.
For everyone who knew him as Ron, Ronny, Rockin’ Ronny, Ranger Ron or the Alley Cat he was always into supporting him family and going fast. Both things he accomplished at a high level. He will be missed greatly.
Thank you to Megan, the Bayshore staff and Dr. Cochrane for their kind and compassionate care.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
If desired, donations in memory of Ron may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
