May 23, 1942 - December 19, 2023
Margot Ann Simmonds, nee Irwin was born to Vi and Harry Irwin May 23, 1942. She grew up on the beaches of Toronto with her sister Gail, and her best friend Diane. She loved to swim and would brave the cold waters of Lake Ontario and later Georgian Bay where she lived with her husband of 61 years. As Rich says, she was like a cork, unsinkable.
She had beautiful hands. Those hands made countless delicious meals, raised three children Brian, Lisa and Ray, bathed four grandchildren Miranda, Mei, Dylan and Rowan, knitted and crocheted thousands of cozy socks and blankets and quickly turned the pages of every book she could get those beautiful hands on.
She was smart and witty, and had no idea how beautiful and entertaining she was. Life is messy and complicated and hers was no exception but she laughed big, loved as best she could, said it exactly as she saw it and lived her life authentically, occasionally being pulled under but always bobbing back to the surface until cancer stole her buoyancy. She is remembered, loved and missed by many.
