HEACOCK, JOHN HOWARD

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Howard Heacock of Elmvale in his 75th year at Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland on Sunday, December 22, 2024.  Beloved husband of Terri Heacock (nee Podolski) for 46 years.  Much loved father of Kevin (partner Jade) and Aaron (spouse Annie).  Proud and loving grandfather of Attley and Addison.  Survived by brother Chuck Heacock and pre-deceased by brother Ross Heacock (survived by Becky), father William Howard Heacock and mother Isabel Heacock.  Brother-in-law of the late Rik Podolski and Patty McNeal.

John was born in Collingwood, Ont. and raised in Elmvale from a young age and decided to raise his family there in 1980.  He had many part-time jobs in Elmvale as a young man including working as a dishwasher at the Red Rooster Restaurant but he was by far the most passionate about his time working on the Beardsall Farm.  John was an active member of the local community and was proud of being from Elmvale.  He was a longstanding member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 262 and an active member of the Elmvale Wildnerness Club which participated in many community events in the spring and fall.

John participated in many bonspiels at the Elmvale Curling Club and represented the club in other towns around Ontario.  He inspired his sons to throw little rocks at a young age as well.  John loved playing euchre with local friends but his biggest passion was golfing.  He achieved two holes-in-one in his lifetime (but not before his wife Terri achieved her first).  John, along with Michael Stone, organized group golfing trips to South Carolina and Florida for over 20 years with their close friends.

John was called to the bar in 1979.  He opened his law practice in Elmvale, with his wife Terri, in 1980 and continued to practice his chosen specialities of Real Estate and Estate Planning until his retirement in 2018.  John was known for being meticulous in his work, for caring very deeply for the community members that he served and working with families for multiple generations.  He regularly provided advice and guidance to young families as if they were part of his own.

In keeping with John's wishes, there will not be a funeral service.

Memorial donations in John's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Elmvale Legion.
