MCBAIN, ROBERT JAMES

Bob, age 92, died peacefully in his sleep at Downsview Long Term Care Centre, Downsview Ontario in the wee hours of January 1, 2025.  

Known to his family as Bubs, he was the last born child of his parents Matthew and Charlotte McBain (nee McClure) who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his sisters Jean Hoag (Sam) and Jeanette Strong (Arthur).  Matthew and Charlotte had emigrated from Scotland as newlyweds to start a new life in Canada.

Bob will be mourned by his children, Shelley, Linda, Robert and their mother Joan; Ian (Krysta) and his mother, Susan.  Bob will be missed by his former life partner, Norma White, and her children Craig Shibley (Caroline Coulson) and Cindy Shibley Koury.

Grandpa Bob was loved by Ijah, Shakti, Connor, Jackson, Jessica, Rebeka and Sarah.

Bob woke up happy and ready to greet every day.  He was equipped with a dynamic personality and gift of the gab; he excelled in sales and marketing.  These talents led Bob to work in many countries around the world.  He possessed flair, demonstrated in his love of clothes and his passion for cars.  Bob was adventurous and a talented private pilot who flew his own aircraft, including the Pitts Special Aerobatic Biplane.  Bob was very social and a natural leader.  He was affectionally known as “The Boss” at Downsview Long Term Care Centre where he continued to hone his management skills. No doubt the staff will miss his suggestions for efficiencies as well as other improvements.  (Wink, Wink)

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lynn-Stone Funeral Home.   As per Bob’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A private family graveside service will be held later.

Memorial donations, made to Downsview Long Term Care Centre, a Food Bank or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
