A long time resident of Elmvale and Woodland Beach, Jack was the founder of Whitfield Drugs, a community leader, an accomplished tenor and lover of music. He put family at the centre of his life and was a generous friend to all who knew him.
Jack passed away in his 94th year at the Sara Vista Long Term Care Home in Elmvale on Sunday, June 5, 2016. He shared a remarkable love story for almost 80 years with his best friend and beloved wife, Mary (nee Cowie). Dear brother of Robert Whitfield and the late Marion (the late Dan) Cooper. Father of Joanne (Tom) Hards, Catherine (the late Bob) Caville, Don (Karen) Whitfield, Peter Whitfield (Johanna Columbus) and Tracey Whitfield (Tom Stoddart). He was the cherished grandfather of Michael Hards, Gillian Hards (Crispin Smith), Gregory Whitfield (Sarah Townes) and Janessa and Julia Whitfield.
The family deeply appreciates the staff at the Sara Vista Long Term Care Home for their wonderful care.
In Jack’s memory, friends are asked to donate to St. John’s United Church, Elmvale or the Georgian Bay General Hospital Foundation, Midland.
Friends may call at the Lynn-Stone Funeral Home, Elmvale from 7-9pm on Thursday, June 9 and from 2-4pm on Friday, June 10. Funeral service at St. John’s United Church, Elmvale on Saturday, June 11 at 11:00am.
