It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Ursule Berthe Farmer (nee Pelchat) on July 7, 2025, 4 months shy of her 90th birthday.
Mom was born on Nov 10, 1935 in northern Saskatchewan. She was the third daughter born to Louis Pelchat (1895-1956) and Bertha Proulx (1911-1998). She is predeceased by 6 siblings; survived by her brother Donald, her closest sister-in-law Sarah, and numerous nieces and nephews.
When just out of high school (where she excelled in math), she headed out on her own to join the Air Force in Ontario where she began training as an air traffic controller. She soon married and had her first daughter. She left the Air Force and soon began a life long career in banking.
Ursule married Ernst Farmer in 1958. Together they built a life that moved them from Toronto to Holland Landing and then Phelpston, where they had hobby farms which included dogs, cats, horses, chickens, turkeys, geese, goats, ducks, rabbits and twitch grass, at various times; and ridiculously large gardens - both Ernie and Ursule were blessed with green thumbs. Ernie passed in 1985, and she never remarried. Ursule was fondly reminiscing the evening before she passed about the good life they had together, their friends and social clubs they belonged to. She was thankful for the life she had. Together Ernie and Ursule had a son and 2 more daughters.
When Ernie passed, Ursule bought herself a place on Orr Lake. She had an old cottage renovated; she built a place she hoped family would love to come hang out at. She loved living on the lake and was on a pontoon ride with neighbour a couple of days before she passed. Ursule was fiercely independent, loved to read and do puzzles, regularly thanked God for her wonderful neighbours, but most of all loved spending time with family.
Ursule was predeceased by her daughter Valerie Dykstra and her son-in-law Wayne Greene. She is survived by Valerie’s children (Jason, Kevin, Chad, and Ashleigh), her son Rick (children Jenna, Michelle, Nicole), daughter Lisa and son-in-law Russell Callan (children Mitchell and his wife Shannon, Brendan and his wife Miranda), and her daughter Mariah (children Rachel and Bret).
Granny (as so many people fondly called her), was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
She will be so missed.
